What makes Maggie unique? Maggie wants to say hi to all people she meets and wags her tail furiously in anticipation. She is exceptionally good with kids and loves walking near playgrounds to watch them play. One of her favorite daily routines is chasing her tail and back-yard zoomies.

Sweet Maggie!

Rescue Story: After my daughter turned 2 years old I felt I had the time to devote to rescuing another dog. I decided to check out Lifeline at Fulton County Animal Shelter. I walked through the shelter and remember wanting to rescue all the dogs but knew I couldn’t. There were so many sweet dogs I didn’t know what to do or which one to pick. On my way out I heard a dog wagging her tail so hard against her enclosure I couldn’t help but gravitate towards her extreme friendliness. I went up to her cage and knew straight away she would fit into our family. When I brought her home, I had to carefully introduce her to my older dog and integrate her into our daily routine. After a few days she seemed to settle in just fine and since then has been a joy in our family.

Come to find out, she was rescued along with her brother running loose somewhere in Fulton county. A few months after adopting Maggie, I joined the Lifeline Adopters Facebook page and looked at recent posts to see if there was another dog that looked similar and found posts of her brother “Ares”. I got in touch with that adopter and learned that Ares and Maggie both had the same rescue story of wandering near an apartment complex and being rescued the same day in Fulton County. Since getting in touch we’ve gotten the dogs together at Piedmont Park.

Ready for her forever home!

What is your favorite pastime as a family? My favorite memory of Maggie so far is her enjoying my daughter’s 4th birthday. We had family over and while the kids were playing, Maggie enjoyed some cupcakes. The only reason I knew was because she had purple icing all over her nose.

My favorite pastime with Maggie is walking her throughout my neighborhood and having her as an office mate each day during the work week.

What is life like since you rescued Maggie? I never in my whole life thought I would rescue a pit bull type dog until I went into the shelter that day and met Maggie. My heart was changed when we brought her home and saw how gentle and sweet she was with my daughter and now 2.5yo son. The stereotypes in my mind have definitely changed since then and I can’t believe I was so uninformed of their gentle and loving nature. Life has changed completely since rescuing Maggie. My kids now have a best friend that loves them and is gentle with them. Unlike my shepherd/lab rescue, Maggie is completely unfazed by my kids running and screaming next to her and lets them love on her even if it’s clumsy and grabby. Maggie has never shown any inclination to bite or snarl, unlike my other rescue. I couldn’t imagine life without her and since she’s been my office mate working from home the last 2 years we are closer than ever.

Photographers Note: When I arrived there was a lot going on in the backyard, as you can imagine with two young kids & two dogs. Maggie quietly walked up to me tail wagging to say Hello. The one word besides sweet of course, that comes to mind when I met Maggie was serene. She is so quiet and gentle, you just get this wonderful sense of peace around her. She has her moments of silliness when she decided to inspect my camera lens for instance but for the most part she was happy to just be near by. She wasn’t so game for playing or chasing a ball, just hanging out worked for her & of course looking adorable.

I so love that just a few thumps of a tail is what led Kerry to look at the dog versus the “breed” and bring this sweet girl to her forever family. Well done Maggie!!

Just a girl & her best friend! :)
