5 words/phrases that best describe Mitts?

  5. Forgiving

What makes Mitts unique? When we (Mitts & Amy) get up in the morning Brian is usually still in bed. After I feed her I make my way back to the bedroom to get ready for the day. Mitts thinks it’s her purpose to run and jump on the bed, sliding across it to put her wet, cold nose on Brian’s neck or face to gauge whether or not he’s awake. Then she’ll curl up and lay down at his feet or back.

Sweet face

Rescue Story: Our Boxer passed away in October of 2016. Our home was very quiet. I (Amy) met Lisa during grad school. Lisa runs Coastal Pet Rescue in Savannah. So, when we were interested in looking at another dog, we first turned to Coastal Pet Rescue. We saw Mitts’s picture and fell in love with her face (how could you not, it’s pretty darn cute).

Mitts and her puppies were confiscated by animal control. We’re not sure why. We do know she was used for breeding, a lot. Brian and I suspect there was some abuse from her former owners, too, but we don’t know for sure. Once at animal control, Coastal Pet Rescue swooped in and rescued her and her puppies.

Animal control named her Mitts because they thought she had big feet compared to her size. They thought her feet were as big as baseball mitts. I felt like she had had enough trauma and decided to keep the name. I’m not sure another name would fit her now.

Adoption Day!

What is your favorite pastime as a family? We love to enjoy the outdoors; hike or take walks with Mitts. Mitts would probably say her favorite past time is to chase/hunt chipmunks.

What is life like since you rescued Mitts? We love Mitts. She’s full of adventure and shenanigans that keep us on our toes. She has stranger danger with humans and dogs she doesn’t know, but she’s come a long way since we’ve adopted her and we are continuing to see improvements in comfort ability with life. She loves to ride in the car/truck and loves to visit her cousins (dog) at Grandma’s house. I would say Mitts is pretty happy with her situation at our home. There’s nothing more she loves than to cuddle up to Brian or me on the couch in the evenings.

Photographers Note: As Amy mentioned above, Mitts isn’t so thrilled with strangers. So when we met at a big park, she wasn’t real pleased about this person joining her and her parents on her outdoor adventure. After a couple barks, she got use to me being near by and just kept a close eye on me! When we moved over to her cousins (Grandma’s) house next door to the park, then it was party time. She was so happy running around the yard and looking for various things to hunt with her boxer and pittie cousins. This dog is so adorable and I would have taken pictures of her forever, however she was so not into having her picture taken. Many times she tried to escape to the back porch to try and get Grandma to let her in the house. Thankfully she likes her treats because her parents were doling those out freely to get her to cooperate. (which worked like a charm) The best part was when we tried to get a cell phone photo taken of all of us, Brian had to pick her up and even then she wouldn’t look at the camera! She definitely wins the “over it” award!!
